چکیده

In this paper, we construct a new concept description language intended for representing dynamic and intensional knowledge. The most important feature distinguishing this language from its predecessors in the literature is that it allows applications of modal operators to all kinds of syntactic terms: concepts, roles and formulas. Moreover, the language may contain both local (i.e., state-dependent) and global (i.e., state-independent) concepts, roles and objects. All this provides us with the most complete and natural means for re ecting the dynamic and intensional behaviour of application domains. We construct a satis ability checking (mosaic-type) algorithm for this language (based on ALC) in (i) arbitrary multimodal frames, (ii) frames with universal accessibility relations (for knowledge) and (iii) frames with transitive, symmetrical and euclidean relations (for beliefs). On the other hand, it is shown that the satisfaction problem becomes undecidable if the underlying frames are arbitrary linear orders or the language contains the common knowledge operator for n 2 agents.

Towards More Useful Description Logics of Time, Change and Context

Description Logics (DLs) are a family of logic-based formalisms for the representation of and reasoning about knowledge. Classical DLs are fragments of first-order logic and therefore aim at capturing static knowledge. Alas, the lack of means of DLs to capture dynamic aspects of knowledge has been often criticized because many important DL applications depend on this kind of knowledge. As a rea...

E-connections of Description Logics

1 Motivation Combining description logics (DLs) with other logical formalisms, including other DLs, is an important and challenging task. Recent examples include: 1. the combination of DLs with temporal logics to form multi-dimensional temporal DLs, cf. e.g. [1, 6, 10]; 2. the fusion of multiple DLs into a single formalism that inherits decidability from its components, cf. [2]; 3. the combinat...

Two-Dimensional Description Logics of Context

We introduce an extension of Description Logics (DLs) for representing and reasoning about contextualized knowledge. Our formalism is inspired by McCarthy’s theory of formalizing contexts and based on two-dimensional semantics, with one dimension representing a usual object domain and the other a domain of contexts. Additionally, it is equipped with a second DL language for describing the conte...

On the Uniform One-dimensional Fragment

The uniform one-dimensional fragment of first-order logic, U1, is a recently introduced formalism that extends two-variable logic in a natural way to contexts with relations of all arities. We survey properties of U1 and investigate its relationship to description logics designed to accommodate higher arity relations, with particular attention given to DLRreg . We also define a description logi...

Multi Criteria Decision Making in Fuzzy Description Logics: A First Step

Fuzzy Description Logics are logics which allow to deal with structured knowledge affected by vagueness. Although a relatively important amount of work has been carried out in the last years, fuzzy DLs are open to be extended with several features worked out in other fields. In this work, we start addressing the problem of incorporating Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) into fuzzy Descripti...

A Multi-Dimensional Terminological Knowledge Representation Language

An extension of the concept description language ACC used in KL-ONE-like terminological reasoning is presented. The extension includes multi-modal operators that can either stand for the usual role quantifications or for modalities such as belief, time etc. The modal operators can be used at all levels of the concept terms, and they can be used to modify both concepts and roles. This is an inst...
